MOYOCO ANNO is a Featured Guest at TCAF!

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is proud to welcome Moyoco Anno as a Featured Guest of TCAF 2014! Moyoco Anno is an award-winning creator of manga for women (josei manga), as well as an iconic fashion designer and writer. She has been making comics for over 20 years, and is perhaps best known for her all-ages series Sugar Sugar Rune. Abroad, many of her works have been adapted in Japan to film and television.

"Moyoco Anno’s manga and books have attained considerable popularity among young women in Japan. Though she primarily writes manga for women (called josei manga), her most popular title in the west has been Sugar Sugar Rune, which was targeted at primary school-aged girls. In 2003, her manga Happy Mania was one of the first josei manga to be published in English for a North American audience…” - Full Bio at TCAF site

Moyoco Anno is attending TCAF in support of her debuting book, Insufficient Direction, published in English by Vertical, Inc. Insufficient Direction is the comedic and heartwarming autobiographical tale of Moyoco’s marriage to Hideaki Anno, writer and director of the massively popular Neon Genesis Evangelion.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

For Mental Floss. Man, I loved those books growing up. Besides the scary-adventure variety, there was also a nature photo series of CYOA books that I paged through obsessively at the library—like “Could You Be a Frog?” where you had to make life and death decisions like “There’s some geese over there: hide in the grass, or hop towards the river?”
Needless to say I was psyched to illustrate this.

Thanks to my AD Joshua Moore!
